Documentation
Because of
different problems wich can exist we can do a complete documentation.
Anyway we will present here few usual problems and few usual needs
for you.
Q: How can I hide my partition
without loosing any data?
A: From principal menu select "3"
(Partition). After this press "1" (Change partition
to work on) select your partition from the partition list, press
"3" (Change type of partition) and select from the list
"1B" if you want to hide your Windows FAT32 partition.
When creating this partition will be maid in the official way,
so no other OS or programs will work with your partition. After
you modify the partitions press "8"(write the new partitions
table to disk).
Q: How can get my hidden partition
back to work?
A: From principal menu select "3"
(Partition). After this press "1" (Change partition
to work on) select your partition from the partition list, press
"3" (Change type of partition) and select from the list
"0C" for example if your partition is a Windows FAT32
partition. When you hide your partition you better remember what
type of partition do you have or have a backup MBR copy. After
you modify the partitions press "8"(write the new partitions
table to disk).
Q: How can I backup my MBR?
A: In the main menu you have two
options: 7. Backup MBR and 8 Restore MBR. The backup of MBR is
good for example when a virus crashed your MBR sector and your
partitions are lost or when you or other programs or OS corrupt
your MBR sector. So if you want to backup your MBR sector select
"7" (Backup MBR) from main menu. After this input the
name of the file where your MBR will be placed(something like
bkp.mbr or a:\bkp.mbr or d:\bkp.mbr). To restore your MBR from
backup select "8" (Restore MBR) from your main menu
input the filename of your mbr backup and the MBR will be restored.
When you restore your MBR backup, the program will create a backup
of overwrited MBR called "backup.mbr" because if your
MBR will fail to work is good to have a backup copy to restore
back the MBR.
Q: How do I work with another drive?
A: In the main menu you press "1"
( Change drive) and select the drive that you want. "1"
for Primary Master, "2" for Primary Slave, "3"
for Secondary Master, "4" for Secondary Slave, "5"
for First floppy drive(a:), "6" for Second floppy drive(b:).
As you can see the program gives you full control on your drives.
Q: The program needs MS-DOS?
A: No. The program works from Windows
too.
Q: How can I fix my bad sectors
from my broken harddisk?
A: In the main menu you press "5"(Check
for bad sectors on harddisk). After this the program will ask
you the points of start(cylinder, sector, head). If you want to
scan the disk from the begining just press enter until you will
see the program starting to scan. If you want to scan just the
second partition for example get your partition information(starting
sector, head, cylinder and ending sector, head, cylinder from
the main menu option "3"(Partition)) give to the program
this options at the begining of scan and he will scan only your
partition. This is very usefull when you have large discs and
want to win some time.
Q: What the drive will do when
scaning for bad sectors?
A: The program will put all your
bad sectors on a file named "log.txt" in the same directory
from where you will run the program. If you want to run the program
from cdrom or a write protected floppy you better copy the program
on another floppy.
Q: Why the program hangs few seconds?
A: If the program will find one
simple bad sector it will stay just a little bit. If the program
will find a serious bad sector(like the one wich hang programs
like scandisk) he will stay 1-2 seconds, but because we work at
a low level with the harddisk he will put this bad in log.txt
and continue to scan.
Q: Log.txt? What is this?
A: The program will put all your
bad sectors in a file named "log.txt". You will have
lines like:
Drive: 129 Cyl: 16 Head: 19 Sector: 60 err: 0xa00
Drive: 129 Cyl: 16 Head: 110 Sector: 7 err: 0xa00
Drive: 129 Cyl: 16 Head: 110 Sector: 8 err: 0xa00
The program will create
this list for you. Is good to have a list of all bad sectors on
your harddisk. Drive 128 means your Primary Master harddisk, 129
Primary Slave, 130 Secondary Master, 131 Secondary Slave. "Cyl"
is the number of the cylinder. "Err" is the error type
for experts. The program will append the file "log.txt"
so before you scan your harddisk you better delete the "log.txt",
or take care when do you read the log.
Q: I want to make
one of my partitions active! How can I do this?
A: This is verry simple.
You can do this without recreating the partitions like other programs
do. You press "3"(Partition) on main menu. You press
"1"(Chose partition to work on) and select the partition
that you want to work with. After this just press "2"(Toggle
active flag), and you will see in the partition table.the flag
A(active) or N(not active).. After you modify the partitions press
"8"(write the new partitions table to disk).
Q: I want to erase
the MBR and create a new and fresh one. How can I do this?
A: Press "3"(Partition)
in the main menu. Press "7"(Create a new partition table).
The whole MBR will be clean. If you want to write this on disk
just press "8"(write the new partitions table to disk).
If you want to modify the data don't forget to press "8"(write
the new partitions table to disk) after you finished.
Q: How can I change
my starting/ending sector or cylinder of partition?
A: Press "3"(Partition)
in the main menu. Press "5"(Change start/end sector/cylinder).
Input your desired values. If you want to write the modifications
on disk just press "8"(write the new partitions table
to disk).
Q: How can I change
my starting/ending head of partition?
A: Press "3"(Partition)
in the main menu. Press "4"(Change start/end head).
Input your desired values. If you want to write the modifications
on disk just press "8"(write the new partitions table
to disk).
Q: I made a mistake.
How can I reload my partition table without quiting the program?
A: Press "3"(Partition)
in the main menu. Press "6"(Reload original partition
table). This will load the original partition table from disk.
If you save your new partition table and is wrong then you must
have a backup of your MBR. Read this page from top.
Q: My Windows can't
be installed because of corrupted MBR. How can I clean my mbr?
A: Few wrong mistakes
in your MBR sector can stop you reinstalling your system. The
"fdisk" can't see any partition or you have problems
with "format". So you must press "3"(Partition)
in main menu. After this press "7"(Create a new partition
table). Finish by pressing "8"(Write the new partition
table to disk). After this you will be happy because your problems
are gone and you can use fdisk and format program.
